The Nubian Family Marketplace is a community-based initiative and an official affiliate of Nubian Family, LLC. Our mission is to provide a dedicated space where Black-owned businesses can vend, grow, and network, all while celebrating culture and building community.
The marketplace’s story begins in 2015, when Ra James West led a Sankofa Consciousness Workshop at the Sojourner African Heritage Museum. From that seed, the African Market Place (A.M.P.) was born, serving for ten strong years, from January 2015 through August 3, 2025, as a trusted hub for Black entrepreneurship in Sacramento.
In 2023, Nasir and Faith stepped forward to carry the torch, bringing fresh energy and vision to the A.M.P. As the marketplace evolved, so did its identity. On August 4, 2025, the A.M.P. was officially rebranded as the Nubian Family Marketplace, a name that reflects a long lineage of Black excellence, resilience, and community strength.
At Nubian Family Marketplace, we chose the name Nubian because it speaks to strength, culture, and legacy. Just as coins like the Florin once showed who held value in trade, today we hold that value in our own hands, by choosing to support each other.
Every time you shop here, you’re helping Black-owned businesses grow, families thrive, and our communities keep wealth circulating where it belongs.
